Decision Made

Wow...you all are passionate about dogs...one way or the other. : )

Well, I think we've come up with a solution that will make all you commenters happy-

We're getting a dog!

But NOT YET!

: ) See~ I'm such a people pleaser. Those of you who said, "Don't Do It!!!" won and those of you who begged on the princess' behalf won, too. Nobody can be mad at me. Ha Ha!

King Charming and I talked about it and we've decided we will get a dog next summer when Oldest Princess is one year older and Prince Charming is walking. He spends so much of his day laying on the floor playing, I think waiting is a good idea. Adding a baby to the family is enough change for this year. The baby of the canine variety will have to wait until next year.

King Charming did request that we choose a "manly" dog. He said, "I won't be outside walking some sissy dog!" The image of him outside walking a poodle, Yorkie, or Bichon Frise makes me laugh! : )

Thank you so much for all of your advice, wisdom, and passion! I really enjoyed reading all of your comments and someday I'll show them to Oldest Princess so she can see how so many of you went to bat for her. Grandpa, you will be her hero!

YAY!! Your kids are going to love it. Of course I say that because I am a dog finatic (maybe that's why I have three big dogs outside!) Good luck picking out a "manly" breed of dog lol. Our german shorthair is going to have puppies this summer God willing. If you're interested in one of those let me know!! but they are a bit high strung, and need lots and lots of exercise!! hunting dogs! Love ya!

Good choice!! I have to say Labs make excellent family pets. They are great with kids and they are "manly". If you train them well early on you won't have to deal with all the horrible puppy issues. We have a great trainer if you want her number when the time comes.

Thanks Em and Andi. I think we are leaning toward getting a lab. I'll definitely want to know more about your trainer, Andi, when the time comes. : )

How funny:) My husband is the same way: "I have to feel like a MAN when I'm walking a dog". We have tried dogs a few times, but the timing is not right for our family. It is a lot easier when you have a baby down on the floor a lot to not worry about him getting trampled or shoving dog hairs in his mouth!!! Can't wait to see what you get:)

How exciting, now you guys have something to look forward to for next summer! I keep thinking small dog for us, but Mike is like Pat, "manly"

I think your idea of waiting till summer is perfect. For one thing you won't have to worry about the weather. Princess will be able to
work with the puppy outside alot. If you are interested I could give you the name or website of our dogs breeder. Her dogs have a reputation for being very calm and really smart. They are English Labs, have to pay a little more but in the long run it's worth it. English Labs tend to be huskier, mellower etc. Let me know and I'll send the info. Oh also, if you are thinking of getting one from a breeder this summer you probably need to put your name in now. The good ones get taken quite quickly. Anyway, congratulations Becky, you won't regret this.

Love ya,
Aunt Dana AKA Mama Mimi

Next summer, 2008, when Karissa is 7 and not 6 or summer 2009, when Karissa is 8? ;) (not a lab! Didn't you see Marley? not a hunting dog. They need to hunt.)

You're so funny :) I think it's a wise choice though, for what it's worth.

So I have a question...big manly dogs also leave big manly messes. Does this mean KC is on board to help scoop non-sissy sized dog doo? ;)

One last thought - I really recommend getting a female (less aggressive, no marking the territory, and less prone to wander)...but I'd also get her fixed immediately so you don't have to deal with the mess and hassle of a dog in heat.

I'm excited for you :)

Good choice Becky! I think you guys are very wise to wait a year. We are going through a pretty bad time with Dash right now. He just keeps getting sick on us. He's a lab and totally not a Marley though. The thing about labs is they are really smart (because they are hunting dogs)and once they are trained they are really good. Just my thoughts.
