Four Heroes

I'm sorry I haven't posted in a long time. I've been working hard on getting the new website content written so I can share it soon.

And I've been working hard on staying off the Internet more so I can be a better mom and wife. More on that to come later.

But I HAD to share something with you.

If you have a box of tissues handy, and want to feel good and grateful. Head over here and take a look at these pictures of an awesome homecoming.

Dawnita, Brad, and boys!! Thank you for being heroes for all of us. I'm crying all over again.

Please pass the Kleenex.

Ooh! I Want One! What Would Your Rules Be?

In my blog surfing today, I stumbled across this craft idea on We Are That Family and saw her inspiration at The Pleated Poppy. I love, love, love it and can't wait to make my own. You gotta go see it.

After reading more about the project here, I've been contemplating What do I want our family rules to be?

I love some of the rules on the Pleated Poppy, but before I go commit them all to canvas, I want to think through What is our family all about?

One of my favorites from her board was ENCOURAGE YOUR SIBLINGS...SHARE IN THEIR JOY This is a concept I've been trying to teach my kids. I really like the way this is worded.

So I'm curious- What rules would you put on your family rules board?

Get me to Michael's, I got to get my craft on. : )

I've Been Nester-ized

Oh no, just when I'm figuring out how to balance my time and not spend too much of my life on the computer, I had to go a discover a new blog addiction. Well, it isn't new, just new to me. )

It is a decorating blog called The Nesting Place. Oh boy, do I love this blog! It just recently had over 1 million hits since January, so I'm definitely not the first to be Nester-ized. And I just happened to discover it on the day she was offering free downloads of her new e-book, It Doesn't Have to be Perfect to be Beautiful.

After reading the book, I was so inspired and set free by her philosophy. She talks about breaking all the rules and not being afraid to decorate. That was me- living with builder beige and making no changes around here for the past five years because I was afraid of committing and afraid of doing it "wrong."

Nester inspired me, but now I've got a little problem. Ha Ha:

How do I settle on just ONE color? : ) My daughter helped me grab the samples from Lowe's and with big eyes she said, "Mom, I think you have hundreds!"

So as soon as I'm able to settle on just one color, I am going to paint this wall as my project for the Within One Week contest I'm hosting from May 13-20.

Let's just see how brave I really am! : )

Go check out Nesting Place for yourself. Have fun and make sure you sign up for her newsletter so you can also get a free copy of her e-book. Maybe she will inspire you and you'll want to join in on the next W.O.W. contest with me to accomplish your new inspiration. I hope so!

Enjoy fellow nesters!

Love,

Giggling When You Shouldn't : )

I was visiting a new blogging friend's blog the other day and enjoyed her story about uncontrollable giggles. Isn't it hard to control when the giggles hit you at the wrong time? Reading her story brought back a memory from my childhood when a bad case of the giggles hit.

It was during one of my piano recitals. My dad and brother were dragged there against their will, and I wasn't very prepared for my performance, so I didn't want to be there either. My poor mom had to work so hard to get us dressed up and through the church doors where the recital was held. The three of us were in ornery moods and not feeling particularly obedient. : )

My teacher had a lot of students, so it seemed like an extra long and boring recital. Plus it was hot. Right in the middle of this long, hot, boring recital one of the students started to play a horrible, impressionist piece. I wanted to plug my ears it was so off. I think it was written to sound terrible on purpose, and right in the middle of the song, she got up onto the piano bench, reached inside of that grand piano, and started loudly strumming the piano strings like a guitar.

Dad, Ben, and I sat straight up and stared at each other. Our eyes asked each other the question, "She's not really doing that is she?"

Sitting back down, she calmly went back to her horrible song. The giggling started slowly, but as the recital went on, it got worse. First we were silently shaking, then tears were going down our cheeks, then we were laughing so hard, the three of us had to get up and walk out. My mom was FURIOUS with us! She followed us out a few minutes later and walked right past us and got in the car. She stayed mad all the way home, but we didn't have much compassion because we couldn't stop laughing. I can't even imagine how much we must have embarrassed her.

Just thinking about that day makes me still laugh. Have you ever seen anything like that? Strumming the piano strings? I guess I'm just too closed minded and can't appreciate REAL music when I hear it. : )

What about you? Any "can't help yourself from giggling in the most inappropriate place" stories? I'd love to hear them.

A Little Self- Discovery

Hey everyone, thanks so much for the feedback on the dog question. So far I'm getting a dose of reality from most of you. If you want to convince me that we need a dog, or if you want to keep me from making a big mistake, let your voice be heard! Click here for your chance to convince me.

While I was reading through your comments, I started doing a little blog surfing and saw my friends, Jennifer and Daiquiri played this game. It looked like fun, so instead of the workout I am supposed to be doing right now, I gave it a try. You Google your name with the word needs in quotation marks. (e.g. "Becky needs")

I learned so much about myself! Ha Ha....

Becky needs:

A place to live
(I'm happy right where I am, thank you very much!)

To listen to Kareem Abdul Jabbar
(Has anyone ever heard that song? Must be before my time!)

A little taste
(Of chocolate? Or are you talking about my personal style????)

A friend
(Any volunteers?)

A psychiatrist
(Ha! How did they know? I though I hid my insanity well)

An Aerobo machine
(A what?)

Time to think
(Yep...right on!)

Help
(Always!)

A giant crane to get her lazy dad off the settee
(Not true! Don’t get your feelings hurt, Dad)

And MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF MORE MONEY! : )

The last one is my favorite!

They're Kidding, Right?

We're home!! The princesses and I had a great trip. I'm so glad we went, but there is something so wonderful about walking into HOME.

My girls are falling apart (long day in the car) and I'm blog surfing to unwind from the drive and get over being car sick.

I just read Big Mama's Fashion Friday post, and came across these links from J Crew:

Pegged Pants? Who's trying to bring them back? Oh how I loved pegging my jeans, but I'm not ready for a comeback. : )

And, oh these pants. OK ladies, can you even in the farthest reaches of your imagination fathom your husband wearing these? The very thought makes me laugh out loud and any of you who know my husband are laughing with me. Not in a million years!!! Ha Ha Ha : )

I did notice the skinny tie on the model. Someone over at J. Crew is hankering for the 80's.

Thanks for the laugh, Big Mama! : )
