You Could Win My Latest Sewing Project

This giveaway will be ending at 8:00 (PST) tonight. (Sunday, April 27) There is still a little time to enter if you didn't get a chance. I will post the winner tomorrow morning. Thank you for the great name ideas!
There is a big blog carnival going on at bloggygiveaways.com and my latest sewing project is going to be my entry in the fun.

The nesting instinct has hit full force, so in preparation for our new baby, out came my sewing machine. : )

I had so many difficulties with nursing the first two times I attempted it. I'm praying that I will be successful this time. I'm on the lookout for anything that will make it easier for me. My sister-in-law had a nursing cover that I thought was ingenious. Using hers for inspiration, I figured out how to make one for myself.

Here's why I like it:

1. It's made out of lightweight fabric, so the baby won't get hot.

2. It's hands-free. The straps connect behind your neck with d-rings and can be adjusted for size. It won't fall off in public! : )

3. There is boning sewn into the top seam that allows you full view of the baby.

4. There is even a built-in burp rag corner to wipe up dribbles. : )

I had so much fun sewing this, I made one for my good friend Marisa for her birthday.

Here's how you can win one for yourself or for an expectant mom you know. I'm hoping to make a few of these to sell, but I need a good name for them. There are some versions of nursing covers similar to this on the market like Hooter Hider and Modest Mommy. Can you help me come up with a name for my little enterprise? Just leave a comment with a fun name suggestion for my nursing covers, and I'll draw a winner from the comments left.

The winner will receive a nursing cover free, including shipping if its within the Continental United States. I'll draw a winner over the weekend of April 26-27. I'll announce the winner on this site on Monday, April 28. The winner will be notified on your blog or by email. The winner can tell me a little about the personality of the mom it will be used for, and I'll choose a fabric that I think will match that mom. (e.g. classic, feminine, bold, trendy, baby boy, baby girl, etc.)

You don't have to be a blogger to win, you just need to leave me a valid email address when you comment so I can easily contact the winner.

If you found my blog through the bloggy giveaway, welcome! You can learn more about me here. I hope you'll come back and visit again.

Remember to stop by Bloggy Giveaways for a list of all of the bloggers who have fun things to give away this week.

Have Fun!

(Edit Note: 4/23/08: I received a comment today that made me realize I needed to edit this post. I would never want to give the impression that I came up with an original design that has never been done before. There are lots of this type of nursing cover on the market made by different companies with different brand names. They sell for between $35 - $45, so I was excited to be able to sew them for less. I guess you could think of this as a generic version of the others I have seen, and I just wanted to offer them to other moms who are on a budget like we are.)

How fun! Be careful, you may get lots of orders. I wish I'd had one when I was having babies.

How about, "Don't Look At My Tits!"?

Hey, it's late, that's all I've got. And it's what I always felt when nursing myself! :D

Well, I was coming over to post a comment because I finally came up with a name...but I gotta say.."Don't look at my tits!" has GOT to be the best one I've heard! I'm still laughing!

As for my clever name, how about "Undercover Mama"? Or "Mama Undercover"? Or "For Baby's Eyes Only"? Or...oh heck...I can't beat DLAMT!!

L O L!!!! :)

LOVE it!! I wish I could do something with a needle and thread besides stab my fingers. :)

LMAO at SmellyAnns name. I was thinking something a little more subtle like "Boobie Blocker." It's almost too similar to "Hooter Hider" though.

Marcia said...

Wow, that first one was a shocker. How about Stealth Mode or Hidden Agenda? My first thought was Undercover Baby (because that's what it quite literally is) and someone posted something similar. Masked Mamas? I don't like putting boob or any of the various forms of the word in the name lol.

Heather said...

I am not very clever when it comes to coming up with names, but I like whoever said "hide and feed"

julie said...

love to win this for my friend who just had a baby

Casey said...

What a great gift idea (or one for myself we are planning on a #2 soon). :) As for a name for them...how about "mama covers" kind of corny but I'm not real good at coming up with stuff like that! Sorry

Qtpies7 said...

I like the Undercover Baby name. I think the don't look at my... is funny, but I absolutely would NOT buy one with that name, no matter how great a product it is.
How about Shield Me? Baby Shield. No Lookey-lookey!

I'm not good with names.

for you, not me...sense the only reason i would wear one is for other peoples comfort!
its cute though!

Undercover Baby sounds great to me - I probably should have brainstormed BEFORE I read the comments! :-) I've made a few of these myself for friends, but I'd love to win one just for me and our second baby coming in September!!

Heather said...

I'm expecting #3 in about 4 weeks so this would be fabulous! Congrats on your #3 on the way!

Coming up with nothing on the name! But now I'll be thinking about it...

Anonymous said...

I have one, and love it, and I think all of my friends expecting babies should have one! Winning one would cut down on my baby shower budget.

The original "bebe au lait" used to be called hooter hiders, but they didn't sell as well. Maybe you should go with a foreign language as well - papilla absconda ("breast hiding" in latin) :-)

Katie said...

That looks great. I usually just use a blanket but that seems so much easier. As for a name hmmm let me think. How about milk cover or jug cover.

Hide-a-child is the best I can come up with!

Tammy said...

Thank you for stopping by! I'm glad I stopped over to visit you. Through the years nursing all my babies, it was just a receiving blanket thrown over them. But these are just wonderful and spare a mom the risk of being uncovered when the baby grabs the blanket! Yikes!

I have one new grandbaby and another one due in July, so I'd love to enter your giveaway to bless them!

Blessings,
Tammy ~@~

Tanya said...

I can't come up with a name for it but I'll keep thinking!

We must be due right around the same time - I have the same type of ticker on my site (I'm due Aug. 28th). Please enter me in :)

Melanie said...

OOh, yea! I'm due in 6 weeks, looking forward to nursing #4, and I've never had one of these, but they look like a great idea. How about "All mine", as in only for the baby and not random passers-by who feel compelled to rubberneck to see if that is indeed what you are doing so that they can get offended because they were too nosy to JUST WALK ON BY! Seriously, I'm not annoyed. :) Great little business there!

Daycare Girl said...

These name ideas are cracking me up. Now that I've read them I can't think of anything different. I like the Private Diner.

My sister's having a baby in July- I'd love this for her.

Jennifer said...

My baby won't leave a blanket on her while we are nursing. I never really wanted to buy one of these covers either. So, I usually just try to be extra modest because there is no way I will agree to being stuck at home to nurse every 2-3 hours!

As for a name... DLAMT is funny, but limits your marketing abilities. How about For Baby's Eyes Only?

Auntnetto said...

Oh this would be a great gift and I am about to be a Grandma so I know my D-I-L would love this
Thank you

Momnerd said...

My idea is "Babe Blocker". Somebody may have already said it, I didn't read them all. My twins just turned a year and they are still nursing but I've got a SIL I was going to buy one for anyway. I think I'd go trendy. You're so lucky to be so talented and good luck with your pregnancy.

Michelle said...

That is such a cute pattern too! Thanks for the giveaway!

Audra said...

What a great idea! It looks so much easier than a blanket. I think a cute name would be "Nursing Nest"

I'm not very creative, but that's my 2 cents worth.

I'd use it myself. I'm nursing my 17 month old and soon we will start planning her brother or sister, so then I'll use it for him/her. You are so creative! Wow!!!

God bless your beautiful family! I'm glad you put pleasing the Lord above all else! :D

This is the coolest nursing cover. I am pregnant with my 4th child and have never owned a nursing cover! I would love to recieve this.

It was hard thinking of a name. Here is a funny one: Titty Tutu

As fun as thinking up a cute name is, what is wrong with something simple? Something like "Becky's Nurse Mate" or "Nursing Blankie". Just a thought.

how about something like "under wraps" or "all wrapped up" (my vote goes to the suggestion of under cover though, that's cute) And God bless with your nursing this time - my girlfriend had a difficult time too - I've never had a problem, so I'm a little spoiled in that area.

How about Peek-a-Boob. I need one of these so badly, but the ones that are out there are just too expensive. Great idea.

I have given each of my children little "love names." My third child, born just 3 months ago, is my little "baby bug." So, if I were to have this really neat nursing cover-up, I would call it my "NO-SEE-UM" in honor of my "love bug," "tickle bug," "stink bug," and "happy bug."

"Using hers for inspiration, this is what I came up with"

This seems to be pretty much exactly like my hooter hiders. I too decided to make my own as it was much cheaper than their price ($35!). But I hardly see how you can call this design your own. I guess they use a round ring and not a d-ring but everything else, even down to the corner dribble cloth is exactly like hooter hiders (bebe au lait). I have no quarrels with you making them or selling them, just dont see how you really made it your "own" and IMHO shouldn't market them as such.

You really do have to be careful about names--no matter how cool the "Hooter Hider" was, I refused to buy it because of the silly name. On the other hand, some of these suggestions are hilarious: DLAMT and Hu-Hu Hut! In that vein, how about the None Of Your Business Nursing Cover? ;)

I actually like Bosom Buddy, Undercover Baby, and Just the Two of Us.

How about Cutie Covers (the cover is cute, nursing moms are cute, and of course babies are cute). Or, working from some of the other suggestions, maybe No-see-um Nurser or Peek-A-Baby.

Okay, I'm not great at this name game but I tried!

Dont let that one person spoil your craftiness. Think of all the other duplicated products out there. To be quite honest some home made things are WAYYY better than the manufactured ones. But anyway back to the contest at hand...

There is alot of great name put out there. My offer is: The Cafe' Cover.

I call myself Kyndal's Kafe' all the time...lol. The girl nurses forever

Hey Becky, I just referred a reader to you who is looking for good gift ideas for a new mom. Are you taking orders for your nursing covers? I know you're a tad busy these days...

BTW - thanks for the comment :)

I love the name Undercover Baby too! But I actually saw somebody with a nursing cover with a logo that said The Undercover Baby. So, I started looking at the other names that were suggested. I like Boobie Bib, but like someone said, gotta be careful with names. People might be turned off by the word Boob or something referring to the breasts. I like Hide 'n' Feed! That's really cute. Private Dining and NoSee Nursing Cover are great suggestions too! Sorry, I'm not very creative with names. But I know what sounds good to me.
