Dang Global Warming!

HA! HA!

These were the views outside of my windows last night:

Not only did it snow on OCTOBER 9TH, but my kids were able wake up and there was enough left to sled on.

I have to admit, I love it! And my family has a tradition of competing for the first snow. Whoever gets it first calls the other family members and brags. Since Mom was here with me for my win this year, I just have to say to my brother, "We win, Ben! Neiner, Neiner!" : )

I do want the pretty Fall leaves to come back though. This was exciting but I'll wait until closer to Christmas for more.

A Letter From the Prince

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to say hi and to thank you for all of the praying you have done for me.

I'm getting bigger every day. Do you see my big boy clothes? I outgrew those little boy newborn clothes ages ago! : )

Two days ago, I decided to change again and become even more interactive. I love to "talk" now and smile at anyone who will give me some attention. Attention is something I seem to get a lot of around here.

I love to hang out with my sisters. They think I'm the cutest baby ever, so I get LOTS of attention from them. But my one true love is the ceiling fan in the living room. Every time I get a glance of THAT wonderful thing, I break out in the biggest grin.

Grandma is visiting this week and she is so much fun. She gives me baths, holds me whenever I want it, and she taught me the coolest trick. If I look in the mirror, I will find another friend to talk to and smile at.

Grandma has to leave on Saturday and I don't like it one bit!

She better come back soon.

Thanks again for checking in on me and my family.

Love,
The Prince

New Mom Gear

My baby is seven weeks old and there have been a few baby items I wouldn't want to be without. I thought I'd share them for those of you who have baby showers coming up or are about to become new moms yourselves.

1. Booby Tubes- Great name, huh? These have helped so much with soreness from nursing.

2. Boppy Portable Baby Swing- This was a gift from my mom and Grandma. I thought I needed a full size swing, but now I wouldn't trade the portable one. It is so easy to fold up and take anywhere in the house or to take with me when I go visiting. Prince Charming sleeps in it often when I'm at my friend's house. : ) It means I actually get to eat lunch and watch HGTV. : )

3. The nursing cover I made. It makes breastfeeding in public so easy. I don't have to be housebound at feeding time.

4. My nursing bracelet that Daiquiri made me. It helps me remember what side I need to start on when I nurse. I slide it off and on to the next wrist right before I unhook my bra. The next time I start on that side and slip it on to the other wrist. It is elastic so it slides on and off easily. It is small and neutral so it looks nice with whatever I am wearing. Thanks, Daq!

5. Shannon's flannel burp clothes. They are the perfect size and are cute, too. I made a bunch before my baby was born and I love them.

6. My Breast Friend Nursing Pillow: Terrible name, I know, but works great! This might just be personal preference, but I like this pillow much better than the Boppy one I had for the girls. It has an adjustable belt that buckles around your waste so it doesn't slip around and it positions my baby perfectly for feeding. It is the same price as a Boppy, but is much softer and the outer cover zips off so you can wash it in the wash.

There you have it! These work for me.

To see what is working for other bloggers stop by Works For Me Wednesday at Rocks in my Dryer.
You can see my past WFMW posts here.
** By the way- I'm going to be doing a book club on my Fitness blog using a devotional called Faithfully Fit. If any of you new moms have baby weight to lose and want to support each other and pray for one another, I'd love to have you join me. You can click here to read about it.

All Is Right With the World

I just got home from the airport where I picked up my mom. She is staying with us for five days, and I can't tell you how that does my heart good. We are all so happy to have Grandma here.

The girls have been counting how many sleeps they have until Grandma comes for the last two weeks, and you would have thought it was Christmas this morning when they realized there were no more sleeps left. Amy figured it out first and ran up the stairs yelling, "Sissy, Sissy. This is THE day! GRANDMA is coming. TODAY!!!!"

I've been emotional and hormonal and a little down in the dumps this weekend, but Mom makes it all feel better.

Thank God for Grandma!

I think I'll sneak away for a nap while she's busy with her grandkids. No one will miss me. : )

Faithfully Fit

I wrote last week about how its time for me to start working on weight loss. This is not a new place for me to be. I've been at the beginning of a weight loss journey soooo many times. Usually I begin by choosing what diet I'm going to do, but this time I've decided I have to start somewhere new. The old way always worked temporarily and kept me from ever getting too far overweight, but it never solved the problem, just fixed it short term. This quote comes to mind:

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. - Albert Einstein

Here's the list: (I'm sure I missed some that I've repressed) : )

Weight Watchers
Diet Center
Nutri Systam
Jenny Craig
T-Factor Diet
Fit For Life
Slim Tea (Don't try this....EVER!!!)
PRISM
Running
South Beach Diet
Slim Fast
Gym Memberships
Drinking Olive Oil (this is HORRIBLE by the way)
Personal Trainer
Counting Calories

Is there anything left I haven't tried? If there is, don't tell me so I won't be tempted. : )

That's embarrassing, actually. Sometimes I wonder why I share so much about myself. : )
Obviously, I need a different approach to this if I'm going to find lasting change. I need to focus on the inside before I'm going to impact the outside for long term.

That's why I want to read Faithfully Fit. I guess the title describes me- "yo-yo lifestyle of chronic dieting." I bought this book seven years ago because my church was doing a small group using it. But as soon as I started it, I found out I was pregnant with Karissa, so I stuck it back on the shelf.

As I've been praying about what to do with the weight battle again, I keep coming back to this book. I think God is telling me to take my own advice and come to him for help first and to let him change me instead of just changing what the scale says or what jean size I wear.

That's also why I included this post on Daiquiri's Seek the Lord Sunday meme. Sometimes we think that we are only supposed to seek Him for the spiritual things and forget that there shouldn't be a separation between our secular lives and our spiritual lives. It should all be His. I've just gotten to the point where I don't even know what to pray for when it comes to fitness any more other than "help" and of course I add "please." : )

I really don't want to do this alone. Do any of you dear readers have the same issues or any issues regarding fitness, weight-loss, health, etc.? I always do best with support and think it would be more fun to do with friends. So I'm hoping you might want to read the book with me.

It is broken up into 42 devotions, so after I read each day's devotion, I'm going to journal about it on my fitness blog. Then I thought we could talk about it in the comments section or we can go to your blog if you blog about it. The book can be bought online for as little as .75 cents, so it isn't a big financial commitment and it isn't a diet, just devotions to help with the spiritual side of fitness.

It's OK if it isn't the right time for anyone else, it will still be good for me, but if you want to join me you can let me know here or on the fitness blog or just get the book and join me when I start on Oct. 20th.

Some Royal Sweetness

We painted onesies as an activity at my baby shower.

This one was mine. I was excited to see him fit into it. : )

And speaking of sweet~

My oldest daughter has been sick for the last few days. She got tired of being housebound I guess, because when I went looking for the girls, this is what I found. Her little sister set up a bedroom for her outside and was nursing her back to health. She kept running back in the house asking me for stuff for Sissy- water cups, coloring pages, games, etc. I guess if American Idol doesn't pan out for her she would make a great nurse. : )

Want to Join Me?

For the last few weeks, I've been blogging on my new fitness blog. I wasn't sure if I was going to "go public" with it. I just needed a place to journal my thoughts and plans. But as I've thought about it, I decided it would be good to have support through this journey.

I also thought it would be great if there are others out there who might want to join me. The title of my new blog is "Climbing My Personal Mount Everest." I describe the meaning of that title in my first post. My goal isn't to just lose weight again. I've done that over and over again. It's more about making lasting change and being free of the yo-yo diet thing.

It isn't a fancy blog right now, and I've only got three posts so far. I'm still postpartum, so I'll be going slow. I've got plans to journal my own journey and to start a book club using this book. It would be great to have other "fellow climbers" join me. We can pray for each other and support each other along the way. If you start a fitness blog of your own, let me know and I'll add you to my sidebar. Or if you just want to cheer me on, I'd appreciate that, too. : )
