Is Our President a Fraud? What Would Happen if He is?

I have been fascinated by the controversy over whether or not President Obama is even eligible to be president. I'm really surprised by how little the mainstream media is covering this.

My fascination lies in the question of "What do we do if he isn't?" Can you imagine the uproar and possible riots from his supporters if it is found that he is NOT eligible to be our president? And then, who would be? Would Hillary Clinton stand back and allow Joe Biden to become the president? She could claim she would have won the democratic nomination if it had been a race between her and Biden. Or would the Republican party claim the whole election was a sham and we need to do it again? What a constitutional crisis this would become! Unfortunately, I see this whole thing as a "lose-lose" situation. Having a president usurp the office and defy the constitution is not good. The result of ousting him could be devastating to our nation. The only "win" scenario would be him proving he is eligible and this becoming a non-issue. But it appears he is unwilling to do this.

Our founding fathers stated that the president must be a natural born citizen in order to protect from conflict of interest or allegiance to another country while leading our nation. Currently, President Obama has refused to produce a vault copy of his birth certificate validating that he truly is a natural born citizen even though his own grandmother claims she was present at his birth in Kenya.

If I understand it correctly, the problem is the Constitution states a president must be a natural born citizen, but there are no directions on what to do if a president is found to be ineligible AFTER he is already in office. Would this be an impeachment issue? I'm hoping you American government experts out there can fill me in on this one. Many lawsuits have been filed asking the courts to require him to prove that he is a natural born citizen of the U.S., but most have been thrown out because the courts say they do not have standing, even though they are voters and taxpayers. It appears that the courts do not want to be involved in deciding this issue.

But an interesting twist has come up recently. There is a new lawsuit that is coming from current and retired members of the military demanding that Obama proves that he is eligible to be their Commander in Chief. If anyone has "standing," I would think it would be a person who would be required to put their life on the line or to take the life of others in order to follow the orders of the president. If anyone needs to have confidence in our president and his right to be president, it is our military, right?

Here are a few links to articles World Net Daily has reported on this issue:

Soldier doubts eligibility, defies president's orders

Major general says president's eligibility needs proof

More military officers demand eligibility proof

U.S. solider gagged on prez's eligibility

Senator: Eligibility is up to the voters

I'm so curious to hear what you all think about this issue. Obama supporters, would it bother you if he was proven ineligible? Would you still want him to serve as president if it was proven he deceived our nation? What about you non-Obama supporters? Why do you think the media isn't covering this? Do you see it as a non-issue or an important one? Anyone else as fascinated by this as me? I have so much to learn about our government and how it works. I'm afraid this lesson might not be so fun to watch unfold.

All Other Ground Is Sinking Sand

On Friday, I was so upset by the passage of the new stimulus bill, I sat down and wrote a ranting blog post. I never published it, though, because I knew it wouldn't be fruitful. Instead, I started thinking about an old hymn called "The Solid Rock" that has been on my heart and mind lately. It inspired the devotion I wrote for my church's Women's Ministry website this week. So instead of posting my rant about the stimulus bill, I decided to cross post this week's devotion here, too. I love the You Tube videos at the end and I also posted the lyrics to "The Solid Rock." Old hymns like that are sermons all by themselves.

From the Word:

Click and Read
Matthew 7:24-29

Key Verse:

The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. -Matthew 7:25

My good friend and I were on the phone talking about some of the national news upsetting us lately. Shook up, she said, "I have to stop reading the news. It is too scary."

I told her, "I know what you mean. Sometimes, I feel like the America I have always loved and trusted in is eroding before my eyes, and I can't do anything to stop it."

Until recently, I was unaware of how much trust I've placed in our country, or how much security I've felt simply from being an American. In this current climate of uncertainty and change, I've felt like I'm standing on shifting sand, that my foundation has been shook. It's not a pleasant feeling.

During one of these episodes of fear, I suddenly remembered an old hymn from my childhood. I could only remember a few phrases, so I looked up the lyrics on the Internet. What a sermon that old song has preached to me these past few weeks. I can't get it out of my mind. I sing it in the shower. I sing it in the car. I sing it to my baby. (He doesn't mind how off key I am)

Every time bad news, politics, or current events trigger that insecurity anew, I sing again, "On Christ the Solid Rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand!"

As a follower of Christ, my security does not come from the success or failure of the U.S. Yes, I love my country. Yes, I'm proud to be an American. But, my foundation is the Solid Rock, Jesus Christ. He will never fail. He will never forsake me. My foundation hasn't been shook at all. He is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore.

Personal Application:

Have you placed your faith and trust in anything other than Jesus Christ?
All other foundations are weak and will fail you.
Renew your commitment to trust in nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness.
As you look at current events, remember to whom you belong and in whom you trust. He will NEVER fail you!

More of God's Word:

1. When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation. -Psalm 10:25 (NLT)

2. But the Lord is in his holy Temple; the Lord still rules from heaven. He watches everyone closely, examining every person on earth. -Psalm 11:4 (NLT)

3. When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm. - Psalm 75:3 (NIV)

Are there fears and worries facing you this week? I pray these songs will encourage you as they did me this week:

Here are the lyrics I've sung in the shower this week:

"My Hope is Built on Nothing Less"
by Edward Mote, 1797-1874

1. My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

2. When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

3. His oath, His covenant, and blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When every earthly prop gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

4. When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found,
Clothed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne!
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

God Bless You!

I Don't Know Much, But...

...how come the government is able to say, "Oops, sorry, we'd like to change where the 700 Billion dollars of bailout money will be allocated?"

...how come they can tell us, "Sorry, we know you taxpayers are footing the bill, but it's really none of your business that we just loaned 2 trillion dollars of your money. No, we won't tell you to whom we loaned it."

The last price tag I saw of tax payer money spent so far is 3.5 trillion, but others say it will be more like 5 trillion dollars or more before we are done. Oh my goodness, can you even wrap your mind around that number? This article was the best I found for breaking down the spending so far.

Where does it stop? Come on in, the Treasury's open!

Now everyone has their hand out looking to dip into the US Piggy Bank:

The auto industry is asking for 25 billion and may get as much as 50 billion.
The mayors of Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Phoenix want a cut while we are being so generous.

What will the final bill be? How can we spend more and more money that we just don't have? Honestly, I'm not trying to be sarcastic. I really want to understand. Why are we robbing from our children? At what point will we just collapse?

When my youngest daughter heard the radio say 700 Billion Dollars, her eyes got wide- "Mommy, is that really a number?"

Is it? I don't know. : )

I think the lawmakers need to sit down with the princesses and watch what they do with their allowance money. 10% to God. 10% to long term savings. 80% being saved for the Wii they are dreaming about that will probably take them the entire year to earn, but they understand "you don't spend money you don't have." And if you want money, "you work for it." Simple, right?

OK, you economists out there. Please explain. : )

Trying Not to be a Sore Loser

I don't like to lose. I'm kind of a sore loser. : )

Last night, the "other guy" won the election, and I went to bed with a heavy heart full of dread and anxiety over the direction our country is headed.

But it has been really interesting how I'm viewing this differently in the light of morning. I thought President Bush and John McCain were extremely gracious as they acknowledged our new president elect. No one can discount the history in the making as we see our first black president. If you remove all of the policies I disagree with, this fact is a wonderful thing and too long in coming.

I still do not like Senator Obama's policies and values. I'm broken hearted about the abortion issue and the ground that will be lost in protecting babies. I am afraid of the rights and freedoms we are about to lose and the tax burden we are going to have to carry. But, and this is a HUGE BUT, many people I know and love are happy about Senator Obama's victory.

I'm amazed at how divided our country has become. Blue vs. Red has made its way into families and friendships. Each side is wondering how the other side could be so blind. It reminds me of these pictures I used to use when I was teaching about the Civil War to fifth graders:

What do you see?

Do you see a white vase or two faces looking at one another? Is it a beautiful young girl or an old hag? Are today's election results a good thing or a bad thing?

The elections are over and they didn't turn out how I wanted them to turn out. I have to get over it. God is still sovereign and in control. His purposes and plans will come about regardless of who we elect as president. He expects me to be like Jesus no matter what or no matter how difficult.

I was inspired by this blog post from Lysa TerKeurst. You should go read all of it, but this was my favorite part:

Now is the time to be representatives of truth to all those around us. May we Christians be seen not as those who continue to strain against the unity of our country, but as followers of Jesus, those who help create it.

She's a wise lady. : )

God bless America!

Love,

Everyday Becky Gets Political : )

In my last post I wrote how excited I was to watch Sarah Palin's speech at the Republic Convention on Wednesday. I did get to watch it, and I wasn't disappointed.

I'm surprised by how much I like this woman. And even more surprising for me is how much pride I feel as a woman in this nomination. It has never been all that important to me that a woman hold a high position in the White House. I've always wanted the most qualified person I can trust to keep my country free and safe, and someone who shares my values. I didn't trust Hilary Clinton in either of those categories. I wouldn't have voted for her simply to have a woman in office. But watching Sarah Palin on Wednesday night, I felt pride in the fact that she was a woman. It surprised me.

The pride I felt wasn't just in the fact she is a woman. She is a woman I can relate to, down to earth, real, shares my values, but also a woman who inspired me with her class, intelligence, and talent.

I had never heard of her before McCain announced his decision last week. After watching her on Wednesday, I was thrilled. Even thought I typically vote Republican and am a conservative, I was not sure that I would vote for McCain. I'm still not sure how I feel about him as president, but by selecting Palin as his running mate he made a huge leap in the right direction of earning my vote. (Not that Obama has a chance of getting it either) : )

I was talking to some girlfriends today who wanted to know what I liked about Palin. So here are my first impressions:

Her speech had substance, not empty promises.
She proved that she is strong, intelligent, and a leader, but was graceful and feminine at the same time.
She was spunky and fun.
She was real, not your typical politician.
She made me believe I could trust her.
She was right on about energy independence.
She is a gifted communicator- her teleprompter stopped working half way through her speech and she didn't miss a beat. Take the teleprompter away from the men in this campaign and you'd hear more "uh, uh, uhs" than you could count. : )
She proved loyal to her family as she brought her pregnant teenage daughter on the stage with the father of the baby and without words made a statement that showed they were dealing with things as a family in a loving way.
She has the right attitude about being a servant leader.
Her convictions align with my convictions and the Republican platform. I'm so tired of RINOs (Republican in Name Only)
I could go on and on....
I guess all I can really say is I really like her. : )

You know who else I've been impressed with lately? Tim Pawlenty, the governor of Minnesota. I listened to him take on Tom Brokenjaw (oops I mean Brokaw) on Meet the Press on Sunday. He was impressive.

Hey, how about a Palin-Pawlenty ticket in the future! Sounds good to me!

In case you missed the speech...here it is:
